SATURDAY AFTERNOONs

NEW! in the studio: PRACTICALITIES IN MEDITATION

What is meditation, what is it for, and how may we best approach it?
Unlike the Sunday mini-retreat days (see below), which are almost entirely experiential, this Saturday afternoon will offer an opportunity to explore the how, whys and wherefores of this most personally private undertaking.
Practical exercises to examine Posture, Stillness, Breath, Mind, Silence and Sound, together with instruction and guided discussion, will provide the framework to our study. It will be suitable for beginners as well as for those wanting to press a little further into their practice.
(See below for fees/contributions and how to book etc.)

An afternoon’s study to develop the skill of CIRCLE WALKING that underpins so many different aspects of TAI CHI and MEDITATION practice.

This will be a practical afternoon looking into the hows and whys of this seemingly uncomplicated discipline. It will be suitable for beginners or those who wish to develop their skill.
By challenging the senses, in particular our sense of direction, sensory distraction can be overcome. Discover walking calmness, with walking balance improved.
CIRCLE WALKING slips a path between skill and art in a way that is unique. It maintains the same principles as Tai Chi Forms but its subtlety is quite its own; beguiling and confusing at the same time. Where do we walk to, and into what?
(See below for fees/contributions and how to book etc.)

SUNDAY MEDITATIONs

As this is for you, this is for us all.

A morning and afternoon mini-Retreat of meditations, short discourse and guidance.
Standing  Lying  Walking  Sitting : Posture & The Four Dignities
Exceptional Teas
Take up the gift of these few hours – to be with yourself whilst in the company of others.

Morning will run 11.00 to 1.00 and afternoon 2.00 to 4.00. Studio will open from 10.30. We will take a full hour’s lunch break. There are many places nearby to eat or buy food, including in Borough Market which is now open on Sundays, or you may like to bring a packed-lunch to the Studio. Biscuits and teas are provided, also sitting cushions.

(only) Suggestions: That you refrain from alcohol in the preceding day. That you prepare for the day by being quiet as you get up and that you should have eaten lightly before we start. That you wear loose clothing (as for a regular Tai Chi class) and bring an additional warm sweater/shawl/socks to put on. That you take steps so as not to need to make (device) contact with those outside for the duration of the day (including during lunch & tea breaks), nor to read newspapers etc. That you are ready to observe silence for the greater part of the day.
(See below for fees/contributions and how to book etc.)

Fees for the Saturday Afternoons are £35.00 – for a current student,
or £50.00 – for a visiting student,
(unless you are coming to both days, in which case the lower fee applies).

There is no fee set for the Sunday Meditations, instead a Contributions box is placed in the studio.

There is no charge at entry or for the tour with Tim of the Chinese galleries
Treasures of Tao
at the British Museum.
Afternoon Tea in the Great Court Restaurant following-on will be in the region of £10.00.
(These visits continue to be suspended as the Chinese galleries at the museum remain closed.)

Thank you.

STUDY DAYS into a particular subject, such as TAI CHI WEAPONS, CHI KUNG or PUSH HANDS, are an irregular feast, and as such will be promoted here, as they occur. Retreats and Study Trips, will generally speaking have a MEDITATION TRAINING element running alongside FORM teaching. These events are individually priced as they appear, with the exception of…

… the tim’studio picnic, taking place annually on the last Saturday of July and which is £££ FREE!
